In the first concert of 2018, re:Sound is joined by award-winning Singapore violinist Ike See, who has been making waves Down Under as Associate Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and more recently with the world-renowned Australian Chamber Orchestra. This will be an evening of well-loved works by Grieg, Prokofiev, Bartók and Mozart.
In Grieg’s “Holberg” Suite, Romantic ideals were applied within Baroque structures and leading to the subtitle, “Suite in the Olden Style”. Meanwhile Prokofiev’s “Five Melodies” will be performed in a brilliant new arrangement for string orchestra by Joseph Swensen. Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances” completes the trio of works for string orchestra.
The concert will then conclude with Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, a work of great scale, complexity and depth. This work is widely regarded as Mozart’s greatest symphony, and also the one that ushered in the era of the expansive Romantic symphony.
