Dutch violinist Carla Leurs, concertmaster of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra leads re:Sound in this concert celebrating three composers who shaped the world of music.
Featured on the programme is the exuberant West Side Story Suite arranged for solo violin and orchestra by Paul Bateman from the musical by Leonard Bernstein, Beethoven’s First Symphony which paid tribute to the classical symphonic masters Mozart and Haydn but also signalled the revolution that Beethoven was to bring to music.
The concert opens with Brahms’ Theme and Variations from the String Sextet op. 18, masterfully orchestrated for re:Sound’s strings by Tan Chan Boon.

Concerto for Two Pianos – Nicholas Loh, Jonathan Shin (pianos)
Two of Singapore’s most colourful pianists join re:Sound in this colourful celebration of world music. Francis Poulenc’s brilliant Concerto for Two Pianos is unmistakably French, yet makes reference to other great music influences such as Mozart and the gamelan music of Bali.
Cultural Medallion Winner Eric Watson’s Arabesque for Flute, inspired by the ornamental designs that can be seen in many examples of ancient Islamic art and composed for re:Sound will make its world premiere in this concert.
Rounding off this evocative programme is Ravel’s memorial to the great baroque composer Couperin, beautifully orchestrated in a neo-classical / impressionist style.
