VICTORIA CONCERT HALL

Singapore’s new chamber orchestra opens their second season with an exhilarating concert with prize-winning Singapore-born violinist Kam Ning. The concert features Benjamin Britten’s bubbly Simple Symphony and the String Quartet no.1 by Edvard Grieg and culminates with John Corigliano’s Red Violin Suite, based on his music for the film The Red Violin, in which the composer uses the repeated pattern of a chaconne to underpin the three centuries of the life of a magnificent but haunted violin.

PROGRAMME:
Edvard Grieg (arr: Richard Tognetti):
String Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Op. 27

Benjamin Britten:
Simple Symphony

John Corigliano:
The Red Violin: Suite for Violin and Orchestra
