Such was the fame and regard for Mozart’s 40th symphony that composers following him used it as inspiration for their works. Greatly inspired by Mozart, Schubert used the same instrumentation to compose his charmingly optimistic Symphony No. 5 exactly two centuries ago. Stravinsky’s neo-classical Concerto for Strings, written to show off the technical prowess of the renowned Basel Chamber Orchestra rounds off the programme.
