Application – SIDE-BY-SIDE with re:Sound
For over eight years, Resound Collective’s chamber concert re:Sound has mostly performed without conductor.
This form of performance relies on every musician to fully understand their part in the music, to listen to each other, and apply their own musicianship, without the direction of a conductor. Playing in an orchestra without conductor is highly demanding, and helps to develop many useful musical skills.
We welcome young musicians to perform with re:Sound on 4th May 2025. We are looking for up to ~38 string musicians, age 13-17 for this concert. The selected musicians will perform side-by-side with re:Sound musicians. They will play in one or both these pieces, depending on space available:
- Einojuhani Rautavaara: “The Fiddlers” for string orchestra
- Josef Suk: Serenade for Strings, Op. 6
The objective of this project is to share the experience and satisfaction that comes from performing in a chamber orchestra, where every players shares personal responsibility for the outcome of the performance. re:Sound musicians will guide and encourage the young musicians throughout the rehearsal process.

Eligibility
– Age: 13-17 years on 4 May 2025
– Orchestral experience: Highly desirable, but not mandatory
– Availability to rehearse: You must be available to rehearse in the evenings, and afternoons of Saturdays and Sundays between 19 April to 4 May. The total number of rehearsals will be kept low, with a maximum of 5 sessions leading to concert day.
NOTE: SNYO and SNYS members will be selected and nominated directly by SNYO management. Please make your interest known to SNYO management.
– Closing date for applications: 2359hrs Monday, 20th January 2025
– Participation Fee: Selected applications will have to pay a participation fee of $80, payable to Resound Collective if and when we confirm your acceptance into the programme.
