NIGHTSCAPES
Resound Collective presents Sir Stephen Hough in recital, his first concert in Singapore since he was knighted in the Queen’s recent Birthday Honours. Titled ‘Nightscapes’, the programme features nocturnal musings and wanderings of an artist from night songs to nightmares, including Debussy’s atmospheric Estampes, Chopin’s nocturnes and Hough’s own Partita, which he composed in 2019.
One of the most distinctive artists of his generation, Sir Stephen combines a distinguished career as a pianist with those of composer and writer. He has appeared on major worldwide stages from Carnegie Hall in New York, to Royal Festival Hall in London.
PROGRAMME

Debussy Estampes, L.100

Liszt 3 Petrarch Sonnets & Dante Sonata (from Italian Années de Pèlerinage)

A Very Small Concerto
Sir Stephen Hough plays Brahms 2

Victoria Concert Hall
A VERY SMALL CONCERTO
Resound welcomes Igor Yuzefovich as guest concertmaster in this concert of monumental works with ironic descriptions. Bartok’s Divertimento, although inspired by the Classical divertimento form, teems with dark undertones, rich harmonies and his quintessential sense of rhythmic drive.
Featuring Sir Stephen Hough leading the orchestra from the piano, Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto, which he described to Clara Schumann as ‘very small piano concerto with a very small and pretty scherzo’, was in actual fact the largest piano concerto written at that time in terms of complexity and length.
PROGRAMME
Bela Bartók
Divertimento for String Orchestra Sz.113
Johannes Brahms
Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 83
Programme duration ~ 110 min, with intermission
This will be a LIVE concert. Masks will be optional, but recommended.
